ALLDATA Scores Victory in Its Battle Against Software Piracy

ALLDATA recently announced another victory in its aggressive enforcement action against organizations and individuals involved in intellectual property piracy. Launched early this year, the antipiracy initiative is designed to protect the company's customers and products.

Recently, ALLDATA sued Leroy R. Reber of Fort Worth, TX, for trademark infringement, unfair competition and copyright infringement, and was awarded statutory damages in the amount of $150,000 and in excess of $15,000 in attorneys' fees and costs. ALLDATA also obtained a permanent injunction against Reber.

"Intellectual property piracy is a common problem that hurts many companies," said Susan Slish, manager of ALLDATA's security program. "To be effective, we must respond decisively. Due to the increasing number of piracy cases,

ALLDATA is committed to take legal action against all organizations and individuals that distribute unlicensed versions of ALLDATA products and services."

ALLDATA is not the only target of intellectual property piracy, by any means. According to latest figures from the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the software industry annually loses about $12 billion worldwide from piracy-some $2 billion in North America alone.
