Biodiesel Fuel Usage

Uncertainty remains regarding the suitability of various blends of biodiesel fuels. The recent feature "Servicing Light Diesels" (July 2007 Motor) advised against the use of anything higher than B5 (5%) biodiesel in late-model diesel-powered vehicles. This recommendation may be overcautious, as Cummins recently authorized the use of up to B20 (20%) biodiesel in certain of its 2002 and later emissions-compliant engines. GM currently offers B20-compatible vehicles to fleet owners, and may expand its range of B20-compatible model offerings.

In the future, all manufacturers may revise their previous restrictions regarding biodiesel usage. Consult the vehicle owner's manual for fuel usage guidelines, or recommend that customers check with the manufacturer for the latest fuel recommendations.
