Identifix, MACS Worldwide, NASTF Reach Milestones

That figurative loud celebration you hear could be coming from St. Paul, MN, Lansdale, PA, or Leesburg, VA. More than likely, though, it's coming from all three places, because organizations in those locations have reached various milestones.

From St. Paul, Identifix, a source of online and hotline vehicle diagnostic and repair information, recently reported that subscribers to its Direct-Hit product looked up information on more than 50,000 vehicles in a single week. Offering real-world, proven diagnostic and repair information, Direct-Hit was developed from nearly 3 million hotline calls to the company's 41 ASE-certified master technicians. Identifix continually enhances Direct-Hit by adding more than 5000 vehicle problems, short-cut tests and fixes on a monthly basis. For more information, log on to www.identifix.com.

The Lansdale, PA-based Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS) Worldwide announced that to date it has helped more than 15,000 mobile a/c technicians comply with Section 609 of the U.S. Clean Air Act, which has been law since 1990. Despite the fact that the Clean Air Act has been in effect for so long, there are still a large number of technicians completing certification, primarily for three reasons, says Elvis L. Hoffpauir, MACS president and COO-a new generation coming into the work force, more types of vehicles equipped with air conditioning and greater awareness of the law and the importance of being compliant to avoid large fines. Finally, the bash being thrown in Leesburg, VA, is for the National Automotive Service Task Force (NASTF), which recently marked its first anniversary of incorporation, and is beginning its second year as a formal organization. Established in 2000 to identify, communicate and resolve gaps in the availability and accessibility of automotive service information, service training, diagnostic tools and equipment for the benefit of service professionals and their customers, NASTF highlights a number of major accomplishments: ongoing work on the Secure Data Release Model (SDRM), which will give appropriately qualified and registered technicians and locksmiths a means of accessing key codes and other types of security data and service support systems; establishment of a Collision Repair Committee to address issues unique to the collision industry; and launch of a redesigned website incorporating a new logo, a new color scheme and other improvements. Additional details can be found at www.nastf.org.
